Project Description

Penguin Marketing

As well as designing the grid and covers for Penguin crime and fiction, and for the Pelican imprint, in 1963 Marber was asked by their Sales Department to produce a range of marketing materials including posters, leaflets, packaging, point of sale, and other promotional material. A series of different size boxes were designed to deliver books safely to booksellers. They ingeniously opened out to become a display unit to advertise the new titles. As John Hitchen, the Sales Promotion Manager, wrote in May 1963: “We have found the 12 book carton you designed for us has been so successful that we would like to consider its use for bigger consignments of books.” Read more
